Markus is a german-born Drummer/ Percussionist/ Composer now living in Sweden. Markus der Schlagwerker has worked/ toured/ recorded with various swedish/ international artists and as a Solo-percussionist in all kinds of styles including rock, jazz, symphonic classical music, world-music. Nowadays Markus der Schlagwerker mostly spends his time working as an independent Drummer/ Percussionist/ Teacher.

Hi!

This month has so far giving me the opportunity to play in the most diverse kinds of settings. I´ve played everything from rock´n´roll double bass drums to shaman drum in a female choir. Another fun thing was to lay down some ethnic drumkit tracks for a swedish folkmusic ensemble. Djembe as a bassdrum, tar with a shaker on it as a “snare”, bongos as toms, pandeiro as a floortom, cowbell as a “ride” and two tambourines on top of each other as “hi-hat”. To the right you see a picture of my set-up. You can hear a rough mix of the song “Polska från (from) Bräcken” in this Youtube clip.

Alright, back from Frankfurt Musikmesse. I´ve had a great time! Met a lot of friends and new friends, been to some fantastic concerts (Greg Koch - amazing!, Jostle - fantastic!, Jojo Mayer - well...) and saw some interesting new products. Here are some of my favorites: 

Remo presented a new "Mondo-cajon" with a brush surface attached to it plus a new scratch-surface-add-on that is really usable. 

LP, as usual, had come up with cool variations and hybrids of familiar percussion instruments. Here´s the "Hi-hat chick-ita", actually an instrument I used to build for myself. But this one didn´t include duct tape. 

Then there´s the Drumport which said to compress your bassdrum sound and enhance the "right" frequencies. In my opinion...it worked pretty well! Just mount the drumport like you would mount a regular fronthead and you´re ready to go.

Last but not least, of course, is the Jojo Mayer "Perfect Balance" bassdrum pedal. Felt like a vintage pedal, but with great new details and stability. Perfect for all kinds of special foot techniques.

News January 2012

Ok, new year - new plans. First of all: My new album "New Folder" is out now. You can find it on Spotify, Itunes etc.  

I´m also about to finish my next book "Style/ Pattern/ Modification/ Tool/ Technique/ Visual effect"(Weird name? - I know :). It will probably be out next month. There will also be a clinic-tour later this year based on the concepts of this book. Then, more recording for a couple of albums that will be released in autumn. This year I´ll also try to find the time to complete some projects I´ve had on my mind for a long time. So long!

Just finished the last drumtracks for my forthcoming album "New Folder". Here are two short clips from the studio, one featuring the track "Sömnbrist" and one a little solo during the soundcheck. My next book will be based on the sounds and modifications I used for "New Folder". I´ll keep you posted on that. Happy Holidays, see you next year!
